For the Love of Teaching

Teaching has been a meaningful part of my life for over 25 years, and I still find so much joy in being part of each student’s journey—watching them work through challenges, grow in confidence and ability, and experience the satisfaction of achieving something they once thought was too difficult.

Many of my students have studied with me for years, and I especially value getting to know them over time and being part of their musical lives.

My Teaching Philosophy

I believe piano lessons should be both rewarding and enjoyable, with thoughtful instruction shaped around each student’s experience, learning style, musical interests, and goals. I want students to develop strong musical skills while also becoming confident, independent musicians who genuinely enjoy making music.

Progress looks different for everyone. Whether a student is learning for personal enjoyment, returning to the piano after many years, exploring favorite music, or working toward a performance, I meet them where they are and help them continue moving forward in a way that feels meaningful to them.

My Musical Background

My own piano journey began at age five, and I started teaching at eleven—an early beginning to what would eventually become a lifelong love of teaching.

I studied classical piano for more than ten years and completed the highest Advanced Level 10 of the Music Teachers’ Association of California’s Certificate of Merit program, with study in performance, technique, sight-reading, ear training, and music theory.

That classical foundation continues to inform my teaching today.

Beyond the Piano

My background in psychology and social work has had a meaningful influence on the way I teach. I hold a Master of Social Work from San Jose State University, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Social Behavior with a minor in Business Management from the University of California, Irvine.

My education taught me to meet people where they are, recognize and build on their strengths, and approach challenges with understanding and flexibility. It has shaped me into a more thoughtful and effective teacher, better able to support each student as they learn and grow.

Outside of Lessons

When I’m not teaching, I enjoy a good cup of tea, daily walks, creative projects, and cozy movie nights with my husband and two girls.

I’m deeply grateful to my mom, whose encouragement helped turn my early love of teaching into a profession I still love.
